Introducing Luna!

Thursday afternoon, I was assisting the doctor in an exam room with this cute little border collie/lab mix puppy a client had just adopted from the humane society. I was loving up on him, and the doctor commented that boarder collie's were my favorite kind of dog, and how much I'd been wanting one. Jokingly, I said, "yeah, you're lucky I didn't get to the humane society first, because I really love border collies!" (even though I wouldn't have selected that one- it had enough lab in him that I could have resisted, but you know!). Well, she and her kids replied, "Well, actually, there is a very sweet little border collie puppy there......"

So, an internal battle was waged. Do I go for it, or not??? I got on the phone with one of the other veterinarians, who also does spays and neuters for the humane society. She suggested that I get down there to check her out. Which, of course meant that all hell broke loose at the clinic, and I was unable to get out of there before the humane society closed. I was on the phone with the humane society with hand, name dropping left and right to see if they would hold her for me, and drawing blood off a sick dog with the other. The said that since I was friends with Dr. L, they'd "see what arrangements could be made."
So began a sleepless night. Everyone was rooting for me to get this dog, the doctors and my co-workers even re-arranged the schedule so that I could go on lunch between 12 and 2, giving me extra time for the meet and greet. It also meant that the humane society would only be open for one hour before I got there.
Well, the trip there was insane- the entire drive, I was going back and forth, how if I didn't get her it was meant to be, I'd find one eventually, at least I wouldn't have to move with a dog, bla, bla, bla. Well, when I ran down the puppy section, and saw that little black and white head pop out, I knew. Her cage card said Luna, and I gasped- I have a pet border collie on facebook that is named Luna! It was a sign. It may be pathetic, but I really believe that it was a sign!!! I opened the cage and she flopped into my lap and started to nuzzle my arm. We played, I checked out another boarder collie puppy, but she was the ONE. She actually appears to be a border collie/aussie mix, which are my two favorite dog breeds, ever. And the perfect mix of two breeds.
So, basically, I am utterly thrilled with her. She is beautiful. She's been good with the cats- very submissive. Kody smacked her on the head several times with his claws sheathed, and she learned who was boss right away! She is housebreaking wonderfully, despite the diarrhea that was part of the reason her owners gave her up. I have already taught her sit and lay down- she is just so sweet and smart and willing to learn! We've already been to the park, and have spent this afternoon watching horse racing together. When it is over, we are heading out for a long walk. I can't wait till next month, when she starts herding cows!
