Belmont Day!

I had a bad feeling last night, when I saw that Casino Drive had a foot bruise, and sure enough, when I got home from work he'd been confirmed a scratch. DAMN IT!

Yes, I secretly would have rooted for Casino Drive right along with Big Brown. I liked him for many reasons, but mostly I would have loved to see a Kentucky horse come back from Japan and win a classic race like a horse should. No steroids. No Bute. All run.

Maybe that makes me cynical; in a lot of ways, I feel really sorry for Big Brown. His owners aren't exactly the Chapman's, the Jacksons or Penny Chenery. You rooted for them to win; they were classy people, loved their horses and deserved the honor of a Triple Crown. It's hard to root for an investment group led by a fraud as an owner. It's hard to root for an arrogant, rude, unscrupulous trainer. Because of this, a lot of people are rooting against Big Brown.

Much as I despise his connections and refuse to root for them (with the exception of his jockey, who would love to show his son a Triple Crown while he still can), I am rooting for Big Brown. While the people around him bathe in greed, arrogance and shady transactions, all Big Brown wants to do is run. And he wants to win more than anything in the world. I want the Triple Crown for him, the horse with more class than all his humans combined.

Go Baby Go!

I hope you still enjoyed the day and the race! And I love that you used the "Go Baby Go" tagline. I think that that is brilliant and smile every time I hear it.
