It is election day today, and as usual, I am not feeling warm and fuzzy towards either candidate. I have a general distaste for dishonest people, and since politicians are all notorious fakes, I've never really had one that I believed in***. Every single one of them will tell you whatever you want to hear for a vote. This is why I register as an independent- it is my way of saying that both sides are basically full of shit. People get so insane over these elections- defending their candidate's every single move while bashing their opponent. I'm not saying that Bush didn't turn out to be a screw-up, because he was. BUT, there is a checks and balances system in this country. If our future president doesn't have the experience everyone thinks that he should, there will be a hundred people there telling him what to do. And if he turns out to be another Bush, there will be hundreds of people to argue with him. I guess what I am saying is that this country was not screwed up by one man alone, and no one man will be able to fix it. So is it really worth the childish name calling? "Obama has an ugly mole on his face!" "McCain is OLD!" I mean, seriously! Can we be grown-ups, please??? Is it worth that kind of fuss? I mean, at least comment on their politics...
Well, you can see why I never discuss politics; aside from the fact that I am just not interested, the whole thing just brings out my cynical side. No matter how good you think your candidate is, you have no idea what he (or she) will actually do in office- he could totally go against all campaign promises. So I hope for the best and leave it alone, which is all any of us can do.
On a completely different note, my blog turns one year old today. Yes, I did later import some posts from an old blog, but my first official post was 11/04/07. For some reason, I remember my first post so clearly- I was juggling a million things and I needed something outside of my juggling act to focus on. Which sounds silly- when you already have too much to do, why would adding something else help? But blogging is fun and addictive, and while I have neglected it from time to time, I am pretty happy that I have kept up with it for a year. Here's to many years of bloggy goodness to come!
(***Except for my grandfather, a former alderman who's opponent in one election was a dirty sleaze who ran around ripping down my grandfather's campaign posters/lawn signs and putting up his own in their place. Many people criticized my grandfather for not fighting fire with fire, since he did not stoop to the same level. As for me? I respected him even more.)
